The Show Low Cougars were the 71-62 winner over the Payson Longhorns when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Show Low took a 84-78 hit to the loss column at the hands of Payson. Show Low's defeat continues an unfortunate trend for the squad, making it three in a row.
Preston Power and Cameron Wallentine certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Power dropped a double-double on 26 points and 13 rebounds, while Wallentine scored 25 points along with seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wallentine has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Nash Brewer, who scored seven points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Leading Payson to victory were Mikey Schinstock and Anderson Hatch. Schinstock scored 23 points, while Hatch dropped a double-double on 18 points and 19 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Omar Fierro-Nava, who scored eight points along with two steals.
Show Low's loss dropped their record down to 19-8. As for Payson, the victory got them back to even at 11-11.
Show Low won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Blue Ridge at 7:30 p.m. on February 6th. Show Low is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 62.7 points per game this season. As for Payson, they will be playing at home against Winslow at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Arizona (Winslow is ranked 150th, while Payson is ranked 168th).
