The Luella Lions won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 84-54 loss at the hands of McDonough. While losing is never fun, Luella can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 328th, while the Warhawks are ranked tenth).
Nigel Thomas was his usual excellent self, scoring 23 points along with three blocks and two steals for McDonough. Zion Greene was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Luella has not been sharp recently as the team's lost nine of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-15 record this season. As for McDonough, they pushed their record up to 21-3 with that victory, which was their sixth straight on the road.
Luella will be playing in front of their home fans against the Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pace Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 13 contests -- so hopefully the Lions like a good challenge. As for McDonough, they will head out on the road to square off against the Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Jaki Bell and Keenan Gray.
