The Powdersville Patriots will challenge the St. Joseph's Catholic Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Joseph's Catholic took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Powdersville, who comes in off a win.
Powdersville is headed into the matchup having just posted their closest win since April 16, 2024 on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over Mountain View Prep.
Kylie Powell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on ten hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kensley Vicars, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Bree Woods was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, St. Joseph's Catholic came up short against Brashier Middle College Charter on Wednesday and fell 13-8. The Knights have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Addie Murphy was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Stella Nash made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Abby Green, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.
Powdersville has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.2 runs over those games. As for St. Joseph's Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-6.
Powdersville took their victory against St. Joseph's Catholic in their previous meeting back in February of 2022 by a conclusive 20-0 score. Will the Patriots repeat their success, or do the Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
