The Winthrop College Prep Academy Spartans entered their tilt with the Boca Raton Christian Blazers with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Winthrop College Prep Academy walked away with a 52-45 win over Boca Raton Christian on Saturday.
Leading Winthrop College Prep Academy to victory were Zamyria King and JoLesa Birkhead. King scored 20 points, while Birkhead scored 30 points. Birkhead has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last 11 times she's played.
Boca Raton Christian lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Kaila Maser, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Maser has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Scott, who scored six points along with nine assists and three steals.
The win got Winthrop College Prep Academy back to even at 10-10. As for Boca Raton Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Winthrop College Prep Academy's road trip will continue as they head out to face Tampa Prep at 6:00 p.m. on January 22nd. Tampa Prep presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Winthrop College Prep Academy in Florida (Tampa Prep is ranked 113th, while Winthrop College Prep Academy is ranked 324th). As for Boca Raton Christian, they will head out on the road to square off against Spanish River at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Spanish River will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive.
