Softball Recap: Tuesday's Win Is North Pontotoc's Ninth in Last Ten Outings

North Pontotoc barely beat South Pontotoc the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Vikings were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the Cougars on Tuesday. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Madison Coltharp spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Rayn Naugle was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kinsley Frazier, who went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Naugle wasn't the only one working in the home run department: North Pontotoc lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

North Pontotoc has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for South Pontotoc, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 14-6.

North Pontotoc will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Cougars: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 9:00 p.m. on Thursday.
