The Richwood Lumberjacks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their third straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 60-45 to Gilmer County. Richwood was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Gilmer County apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Richwood lost, one person who can't be blamed is Grant Russell. Despite the final result, he scored 22 points. Russell scored a full 48.9% of Richwood's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Trae Trivolette was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Gilmer County got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Tyler Bush out in front who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. The matchup was Bush's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zachariah Wine, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds.
Richwood's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Gilmer County, their victory ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-7.
Richwood will be playing at home against Pocahontas County at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Pocahontas County is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Gilmer County, they will head out on the road to face off against Roane County at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
