The Beech Buccaneers will take on the Henry County Patriots at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday. Beech is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Beech came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Glenbard East, falling 12-2.
Beech got a good showing from Watson Storey, who struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off two hits (and only one walk).
On the hitting side, Beech saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Grayson Kennedy, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another was Aiden Curry, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Henry County entered their tilt with West Creek on Tuesday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They never let the Coyote get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The Patriots not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 21st.
Turner McSwain tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted over his last six matches.
At the plate, Logan Davidson and Chase Cameron did most of the damage at the plate: Davidson scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Cameron scored a run while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits Cameron has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyten Littleton, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Henry County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Creek only posted a batting average of .067.
Henry County's victory bumped their record up to 12-4. As for Beech, their loss dropped their record down to 14-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Beech has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Henry County struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
