5A Region I District 7 recap Nov. 7, 2012
Mansfield scored a stunning upset when it knocked off Cedar Hill, 27-20. At the time, the Longhorns were ranked 14th in the state, while the Tigers were 62nd.
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Mansfield, who took down 14th ranked Cedar Hill, 27-20.
Duncanville's dynamic duo of Stedman Lanigan and Jaquan Cole proved tough for South Grand Prairie to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Lanigan threw for 115 yards and two touchdowns and Cole had 126 yards receiving. Aaron Piper helped Duncanville's passing attack out by catching six balls for 70 yards.
Bryce Fausett provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Midlothian bested Mansfield Timberview. He completed five passes for 44 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for 90 yards. Fausett's favorite target this week was Justin Seeton, who caught four passes for 37 yards.
Seeton was the most productive running back in 5A Region I District 7 this week. He ran for 111 yards on 22 carries as the Panthers lost to the Warriors.
Midlothian's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Panthers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Fausett has thrown for 1020 yards and 13 touchdowns this season, while Brendon Cornell has 41 catches for 504 yards. Seeton leads the league in rushing with 832 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Jeff Hulme's team takes on DeSoto. The Tigers are in fourth place, while the Eagles are in first place.
DeSoto extended the longest winning streak in 5A Region I District 7 this week by beating Grand Prairie, 76-35. This was the team's ninth consecutive win.
