Last Friday, Pathway Christian humbled Varsity Opponent with a 74-36 victory. With Pathway Christian ahead 51-22 at the half, the match was all but over already.
Pathway Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Preston Yutzy, who scored 14 points along with 8 rebounds and 6 steals. The matchup was Yutzy's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Ryker Miller, who scored 17 points along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals.
Meanwhile, Quad Cities Christian waltzed into Saturday's matchup with three straight wins but they left with four. They skirted past Calvary Christian Academy 45-43. Given Quad Cities Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 212th, while Calvary Christian Academy is ranked 714th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Quad Cities Christian got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Cobie Becker-Paradiso out in front who scored 11 points along with 3 blocks. The contest was Becker-Paradiso's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Seth Karl, who scored 12 points.
Pathway Christian's victory bumped their record up to 3-5. As for Quad Cities Christian, they pushed their record up to 8-1 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road.
Pathway Christian couldn't quite finish off Quad Cities Christian in their previous matchup back in February and fell 37-35. Can Pathway Christian avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
