The MaxPreps Tour of Champions travelled to Goshen, Ind. to honor the
Goshen boys' soccer team on an exciting and memorable season. The Goshen Redskins boys' soccer team is a special group of young men. Each one of them was polite and attentive. They seemed to really get along with each other and they showed character in their responses to interviews. One of the biggest moments for this great team was realizing that they had acquired the first ever championship in the history of the school for boys' soccer!
The Goshen Redskins boys' soccer team finished their season with a valiant record of 20-2-1 under the amazing coaching staff led by Coach Viratham Mounsithiraj, who is fondly referred to as Coach "V". The coach's smile was captivating as he, his staff and team were honored on the 4th Annual MaxPreps Soccer Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard on February 12th. It was a special night as the gymnasium filled with about 1,200 people watching attentively as each player first received their state championship ring (comparable to that of Super Bowl stardom).
Immediately following the ring ceremony, Jen Alvares of MaxPreps congratulated the team and began the Tour of Champions presentation. Jen recounted the Redskins amazing season, noting that MaxPreps had been watching. Out of the 15,000 boys' soccer teams, the Redskins were ranked No. 24 in the country. The applause roared through the gymnasium and Jen then introduced Sergeant Greg Evans of the Indiana Army National Guard. Along with SGT Evans stood Sergeant King, Private Delgado, Private Tavallali and Private Teets. SGT Evans then congratulated and presented Coach "V" and the Goshen High School Redskins with the Army National Guard national ranking trophy in honor of their phenomenal season. SGT Evans spoke directly to the team and coach as he then recited how qualities like leadership, teamwork and hard effort brought them this far and will carry them for a lifetime. Private Teets unrolled the rafter banner which was then presented to the players and will likely hang in the rafters as a reminder of a season not soon to be forgotten.
Cameras were flashing and smiles were wide as the players raised the Minuteman trophy high in the air.
Congratulations Goshen on your first state title and national ranking!
