Basketball Game Preview: Telfair County Trojans vs. Appling County Pirates

The Telfair County Trojans will take on the Appling County Pirates in a holiday battle at at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Telfair County is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.

Last Saturday, Telfair County was fully in charge, breezing past Toombs County 50-20. The Trojans pushed the score to 35-11 by the end of the third, a deficit the Bulldogs had little chance of recovering from.

Telfair County got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ty'Kristiany Jones out in front who posted eight points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Jones is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least four every time she's taken the court this season. Aamoni Posley was another key player, putting up six points and six rebounds.

Telfair County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in five consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Appling County escaped with a win on Saturday against Jeff Davis by the margin of a single free throw, 59-58.

Telfair County better keep an eye on Erica Clemons. She was instrumental in Appling County's win, almost dropping a double-double on 23 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Shamiah Burnum, who had nine points and five steals.

Appling County's win ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-4. As for Telfair County, their victory bumped their record up to 3-0.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Telfair County has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 35.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Appling County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 41.3 boards.
