AAA District 5 recap Oct. 16, 2012
Ooltewah extended the longest winning streak in AAA District 5 this week by beating Rhea County, 33-6. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
Walker Valley moved up to 121 from 159 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Mustangs were able to make the jump by falling to Bradley Central 27-21.
McMinn County's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Corbin Powers threw for 80 yards and Blake Powers had 65 yards receiving. On the ground Dre Sanders chipped in 112 yards. Clay Bennett helped McMinn County's passing attack out by catching one ball for 14 yards.
On the ground, the Cherokees' Kelvin Wells Jr. has rushed for 1122 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is C.j. Brown. The Soddy Daisy star has 25 catches for 364 yards.
A big matchup in AAA District 5 this week will be when Cleveland takes on the Bears. The Blue Raiders are currently in third, while Bradley Central is in fourth.
Ooltewah was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in the league. Earlier in the week, Shannon Williams' team defeated the Golden Eagles 33-6.
