The Chartiers Valley Colts will venture away from home to take on the Montour Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Chartiers Valley will be strutting in after a victory while Montour will be coming in after a defeat.
Chartiers Valley is headed out in good spirits considering the team just ended their winless streak on the road against Moon Area on Wednesday. The Colts put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 10-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Colts, who have now won three games by six runs or more so far this season.
Taylor Walsh spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Delaney O'Connor, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. Chloe Tenney also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
O'Connor wasn't the only one making solid contact: Chartiers Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The Colts are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Montour came up short against South Fayette on Wednesday and fell 6-3. The matchup marked the Spartans' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Shania Cope was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Emily McClean, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Chartiers Valley is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. As for Montour, their loss was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-4-1.
Chartiers Valley took their win against Montour in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 19-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Colts since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
