After flying high against Vienna last Tuesday, Meridian came back down to earth. The Meridian Bobcats received a blow on Saturday as they fell 74-60 to the Waterloo Bulldogs. The Bobcats' loss signaled the end of their nine-game winning streak.
Several Bobcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Javionne Ranson, who posted 12 points and five rebounds. That's the most boards Ranson has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Max Russell, who had nine points.
Alex Stell continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Waterloo, dropping a double-double on 38 points and 18 rebounds. Landyn Werner also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.
Meridian's defeat dropped their record down to 19-6. As for Waterloo, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 17-8 record.
Meridian and Waterloo should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. Meridian (ranked 190th) will meet Century (ranked 580th) at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Meridian is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. Similarly, Waterloo will challenge Red Bud at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday up 340 places (94 vs. 434). Meridian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 73.1 points per game this season.
