The Jefferson Dragons's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their eighth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Sickles, falling 65-12. Jefferson was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 49-6.
Despite the defeat, Jefferson saw an underclassman step up: Damaria Pitcher scored nine points. Pitcher continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.
Sickles was led to victory by Jadyn Watts and Beckham Hockley. Watts scored 16 points along with five assists and three steals, while Hockley scored 23 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which Hockley has scored at least 25% of Sickles' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelsey Sharpe, who scored six points along with eight steals.
Jefferson bumped their record down to 2-8 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.3 points per game. As for Sickles, their win bumped their record up to 7-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jefferson will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Blake at 6:00 p.m. on January 9, 2024. Sickles won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Carrollwood Day at 11:30 a.m. on December 16th. Hopefully Carrollwood Day focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 29 on Tuesday.
