South Central is a perfect 3-0 against West Washington since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Rebels will face off against the Senators at 7:00 p.m. South Central has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with four straight defeats, while West Washington will come in with three straight victories.
Tell City hit South Central with a four-run third inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Rebels came up short against the Marksmen, falling 7-1.
South Central saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jarrett Ferree, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, while West Washington put up plenty of runs on Saturday, the same can't be said for Henryville. The Senators were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over the Hornets. The Senators might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by six runs or more this season.
Hayden Morrow was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
In other batting news, West Washington got a massive performance out of Cole Timberlake, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave Timberlake a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jaylin Lockard, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
West Washington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .516 or higher in three consecutive games.
West Washington's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for South Central, their loss dropped their record down to 7-13.
South Central beat West Washington 7-4 when the teams last played back in April of 2018. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rebels since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
