Even though The Coronado Thunderbirds have not done well against the Montwood Rams recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Coronado secured a 26-21 W over Montwood. The victory was familiar territory for Coronado who now have four in a row.
Coronado was led to victory by Thomas Murray and Ben Wilson. Murray rushed for 123 yards and two touchdowns, while Wilson rushed for 100 yards.
Coronado's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Jaeden Hickson and his three sacks.
Despite the loss, Montwood still got an impressive performance from Gio Varela, who picked up 146 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Varela has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more receiving yards the last three times he's played.
Coronado's win bumped their record up to 5-5. As for Montwood, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season.
Coronado does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Montwood will head out on the road to face off against Midland Legacy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Midland Legacy has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 425 points over their last nine contests.
