The Montclair Cavaliers fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the Wilson Wildcats on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Wildcats 31-25. Montclair gained 60 more yards on the day, but it was Wilson that made the best of use of them.
When it comes to explaining why Montclair lost, one person who can't be blamed is Elijah Tehe. Despite the final result, he rushed for 123 yards on only 11 carries.
Dominic Ezeonye was his usual excellent self, rushing for 224 yards and five touchdowns.
Montclair are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-5. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-2 Covina (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 66.7% over those games). As for Wilson, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 9-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Montclair will challenge Sierra Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sierra Vista comes in on a streak of failing to score more than eight points in their last seven games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Wilson, they will head out on the road to face off against Baldwin Park at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Baldwin Park is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home.
