Even though the Laguna Beach Breakers scored an imposing 59 points on Thursday, the Dana Hills Dolphins still came out on top. Everything went Dana Hills' way against Laguna Beach as Dana Hills made off with a 84-59 victory. Given Dana Hills' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while Laguna Beach is ranked 197th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Dana Hills was led to victory by Collin Haugh and Logan Scodeller. Haugh scored 29 points, while Scodeller dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 assists. That makes it five consecutive games in which Haugh has scored at least 25% of Dana Hills' points. Ryan Torab was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Laguna Beach lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Dylan Mceachern, who scored 19 points. The game was Mceachern's 14th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mack Thompson, who scored 15 points.
Dana Hills' win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-4. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.6 points per game. As for Laguna Beach, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-6.
Dana Hills will finish 2023 at home by hosting Highland at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Highland is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games. Laguna Beach and San Clemente will round out the year against one another at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at. San Clemente knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five contests -- so hopefully Laguna Beach likes a good challenge.
