The Jordan Beetdiggers will challenge the Lone Peak Knights at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Lone Peak took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Jordan, who comes in off a win.
Jordan is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Skyridge, who was ranked tenth at the time (Jordan was ranked 15th). The Beetdiggers walked away with a 5-1 win over the Falcons on Friday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Beetdiggers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
KADE CARTER spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, DALLON MOLDER was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Ayden Thurgood, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Jordan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. They are 5-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Lone Peak was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of Lehi.
Lone Peak also got a good showing from Porter Holmes, who pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, Bronx Chavira made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run.
Lone Peak's loss dropped their record down to 16-6. As for Jordan, their win bumped their record up to 12-10.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Jordan hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .312. However, it's not like Lone Peak struggles in that department as they've averaged .370. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Jordan beat Lone Peak 7-3 in their previous matchup back in May of 2021. Do the Beetdiggers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Knights turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
