The Columbus East Olympians's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They fell 53-46 to Franklin Community. While losing is never fun, Columbus East can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 221st, while Franklin Community is ranked 35th).
Several Olympians players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mason Reeves, who scored 18 points. That's the first time this season that Reeves scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Fischvogt, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds.
Franklin Community got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Wyatt Nickleson out in front who scored 11 points along with four steals. Nickleson continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Micah Davis was another key contributor, scoring 20 points.
Columbus East now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Franklin Community, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Columbus East will be home for the holidays to greet Columbus North at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Franklin Community will be home for the holidays to greet Beech Grove at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Beech Grove is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 50.2 points per game.
