Catholic and Live Oak are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2015, but likely not for long. The Catholic Bears will head out on the road to challenge the Live Oak Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Catholic's pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so Live Oak's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Catholic's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They came out on top against Slidell by a score of 3-0. The Bears haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Davis Emonet looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched.
At the plate, Orlando Henriquez was excellent, going 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Mills Richardson was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Live Oak had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They walked away with a 4-0 win over the Tigers. Four seems to be a good number for the Eagles as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
The result came thanks to Trevor Hodges's shutout, as he gave up just four hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brayden Allen, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Lane Billings also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Live Oak pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs over those games. As for Catholic, their record now sits at 8-1.
Catholic took their victory against Live Oak in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 13-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for Catholic since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
