The Madison Warhawks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their eighth straight loss. They fell 62-49 to La Jolla. Madison was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Vikings apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2022.
Caleb Gleason and Allen Sola certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Gleason scored 13 points along with six rebounds, while Sola scored 13 points along with seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Sola has scored all season. Jorge Luque was another key contributor, scoring three points along with five steals.
La Jolla's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Michael Contreras led the charge by dropping a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. Contreras is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in the last 11 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Nick Sebro, who scored ten points along with six steals and two blocks.
Madison has been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 13 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-16 record this season. As for La Jolla, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-9.
Madison won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Olympian knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 17 contests -- so hopefully the Warhawks like a good challenge. As for La Jolla, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Rattlers at 6:15 p.m. Canyon Hills is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road.
