Holmes is 8-2 against Gates County since February of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Holmes Aces will head out on the road to face off against the Gates County Red Barons at 6:00 p.m. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though Holmes has not done well against Bertie recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Holmes came out on top against Bertie by a score of 49-36. The win made it back-to-back wins for Holmes.
Meanwhile, Gates County's game on Tuesday was all tied up 20-20 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They managed a 43-37 victory over Camden County.
Gates County found their leader in underclassman London Barber, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 10 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which Barber has scored at least 25% of Gates County's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Semiyah Saunders, who scored 6 points along with 8 rebounds and 6 steals.
The wins kept both teams' perfect 2-0 season records intact.
Holmes beat Gates County 53-46 in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. Does Holmes have another victory up their sleeve, or will Gates County turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
