Wheatmore is 6-1 against Southeast Guilford since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Wheatmore Warriors will welcome the Southeast Guilford Falcons at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Having struggled with five losses in a row, Wheatmore turned things around against Eastern Randolph on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 15-5 margin over the Wildcats.
Maddie Nichols was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Savannah Heiney, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Wheatmore hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 2-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Southeast Guilford entered their tilt with Western Guilford on Tuesday with five consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with six. They never let the Hornets get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory.
Kayla Shoffner made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Shoffner was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Shoffner is crushing it when it comes to triples: she's hit at least one every time she's taken the field this season.
In other batting news, Southeast Guilford got a big performance out of Chelsea O'Bryant, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1. Alexis Hammonds was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-1.
Southeast Guilford pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Wheatmore, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 4-6.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Wheatmore has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .451. However, it's not like Southeast Guilford struggles in that department as they've averaged .525. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Wheatmore skirted past Southeast Guilford 12-10 in their previous meeting back in March of 2023. Will Wheatmore repeat their success, or does Southeast Guilford have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
