Baseball Recap: Rogers Wins Going Away Against Colbert County

While Rogers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on the Colbert County Indians with a sharp 9-2 win on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won four contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Easton Bradley and Jackson Green were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Bradley struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Meanwhile, Green struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those six strikeouts gave Bradley a new career-high. At the plate, Bradley scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Green went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Bradley also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

In other batting news, Ty Caperton was incredible, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Curtis Campbell was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Rogers was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Colbert County only posted a batting average of .042.

Rogers has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. This is the second loss in a row for Colbert County and nudges their season record down to 2-6.

Looking ahead, Rogers will head out on the road to face off against Haleyville at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Colbert County, they will be playing at home against Lauderdale County at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
