After flying high against the Rifle Bears on Friday, the Grand Junction Central Warriors came back down to earth. Grand Junction Central took a 59-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of Moffat County. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Grand Junction Central's lost on Saturday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Blake Rooks, who scored 17 points. The matchup was Rooks' third in a row with at least ten points. Ryland Nostrand was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with 5 rebounds.
Moffat County had a senior duo take command as Ian Champ hafey dropped a double-double on 21 points and 16 rebounds and Bryant Carlson scored 25 points along with 6 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Carlson has scored at least 25% of Moffat County's points. Another player making a difference was Evan Beaver, who scored 4 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 steals.
Grand Junction Central's loss dropped their record down to 2-1. As for Moffat County, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
Grand Junction Central will square off against Colorado Academy at 8:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Moffat County, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Montrose at 5:00 p.m. Hopefully Montrose focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Saturday.
