On Friday, the Woodson Warriors faced the Ballou Knights in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Woodson strolled past Ballou with points to spare, taking the game 28-14. Winning may never get old, but Woodson sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Woodson found their leader in underclassman William Simmons, who rushed for 275 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.9 yards per carry.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Woodson's defense and their five sacks. Ballou's QB won't forget Malik Wade anytime soon given Wade sacked him twice.
Despite the loss, Ballou still got an impressive performance from Kelvin Hewitt, who rushed for 108 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries, and also threw for 130 yards and a touchdown.
Woodson has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season. As for Ballou, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-5.
Woodson will head out on the road to face off against Eastern at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in District of Columbia (Eastern is ranked 11th, while Woodson is ranked sixth). As for Ballou, they will play host again and welcome Jackson-Reed, where kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Jackson-Reed is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
