Baseball Recap: East Lake Takes a Loss

East Lake fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Clearwater Central Catholic on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Clearwater Central Catholic Marauders by a score of 5-4. That makes it the first time this season the Eagles have let down their home crowd.

Andrew Sheffield made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Camden Boehm was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

East Lake suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 8-4. As for Clearwater Central Catholic, their win ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-10.

Coming up, East Lake will take on Cypress Creek in a tournament on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (East Lake 3.5, Cypress Creek 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Clearwater Central Catholic, they will face off against Northeast at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for Clearwater Central Catholic: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Northeast has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.
