Suncoast escaped with a win against Wellington by the margin of a single free throw, 52-51. Given Suncoast's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 165th, while Wellington is ranked 368th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Philleah Bright continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 15 points. Another player making a difference was Candyce Hutchings, who scored eight points.
Suncoast has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a massive bump to their 9-7 record this season. As for Wellington, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-10.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Suncoast's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Jupiter at 7:30 p.m. on January 22nd. Wellington won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Glades Central at 7:30 p.m. on January 18th. Glades Central has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 3-0 during that stretch of close contests.
