The Benson Bobcats will square off against the Desert Christian Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Benson sitting on four straight victories and Desert Christian on three.
Benson is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Santa Rita with a sharp 21-1 win on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Meanwhile, Desert Christian made easy work of San Miguel on Tuesday and carried off a 25-4 win. With that victory, the Eagles brought their scoring average up to 7.7 runs per game.
Eric Williams made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Caden Esquerra was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five runs, and six RBI. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high. Ethan Craig was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Desert Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .609. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Benson's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-9-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Desert Christian, their win bumped their record up to 4-7.
Benson beat Desert Christian 10-5 in their previous meeting back in March. Will the Bobcats repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
