Softball Recap: Scholars Guild Academy Takes Down Ranked Covington Academy

On Thursday, Scholars Guild Academy faced Covington Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Everything went the Scholars Guild Academy Spartans' way against the Covington Academy Bulldogs as the Scholars Guild Academy Spartans made off with an 18-3 win. Fans of the Spartans have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Madison Kenny made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Scholars Guild Academy got a massive performance out of Noelle Boeckman, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. That stolen base marked the first that Boeckman snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Alanna Maher, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Scholars Guild Academy hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matches.

Scholars Guild Academy pushed their record up to 6-0 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Covington Academy, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 4-3 record.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Scholars Guild Academy will challenge Lyndon Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Scholars Guild Academy's pitching crew has only allowed 2.3 runs per game this season, so Lyndon Academy's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Covington Academy, they will square off against Creekside Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Covington Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
