Whitney Young has gone a perfect 3-0 against Amundsen recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Dolphins will face off against the Vikings at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Whitney Young's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Hancock 16-0. The victory continues a trend for the Dolphins in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won eight in a row.
Claire Swanborn and Sarah Alvarez were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Swanborn pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Alvarez tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Swanborn has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. At the plate, Swanborn went 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI, while Alvarez got on base in two of her three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Whitney Young let Mara Finnigan and Itzel Jaime run wild. Finnigan went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs, while Jaime went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Finnigan a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Savannah Sojka, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Whitney Young always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Amundsen waltzed into their game on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over the Grizzlies.
Allie Reynolds made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Reynolds was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ashley Ellevog, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Lydia Hulliberger, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Whitney Young's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-10-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Amundsen, their record now sits at 13-9.
Everything went Whitney Young's way against Amundsen in their previous matchup back in April, as Whitney Young made off with a 13-4 win. Do the Dolphins have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Vikings turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
