The Chaparral Firebirds will head out on the road to take on the Canyon View Jaguars at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Chaparral is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Buena with a sharp 11-1 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Firebirds.
Reese Cosman spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Parker Liano was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with five RBI and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Ava Stallone also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Chaparral kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 7-2 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Canyon View waltzed into their contest last Thursday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They never let the Hawks get on the board and left with an 8-0 win. That's two games straight that the Jaguars have won by exactly eight runs.
Buckeye's batters probably weren't too happy with Emily Davis, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 18 Ks (she gave up zero walks).
On the hitting side, Makenzie Jones and Brooklyn Theiler did most of the damage at the plate: Jones got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run and one stolen base, while Theiler went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Sedona Hernandez, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.
Canyon View pushed their record up to 24-4 with the victory, which was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Chaparral, their record now sits at 14-16.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. Chaparral hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Canyon View struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Chaparral suffered a grim 17-6 defeat to Canyon View when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Firebirds avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
