Baseball Game Preview: Edison Wildcats vs. Oak Glen Golden Bears

Edison is a perfect 5-0 against Oak Glen since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Wildcats will challenge the Golden Bears at 5:00 p.m. Edison's pitching crew has only allowed 0.2 runs per game this season, so Oak Glen's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Edison fell victim to Carrollton and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 1-0. The loss was the Wildcats' first of the season.

Meanwhile, Oak Glen earned an 11-6 victory over Cameron on Monday.

Josh Maher was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. Maher was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

In other batting news, Lucas Zoellers was incredible, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Colt Hissam, who scored four runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Oak Glen kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cameron only managed six hits.

Oak Glen has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. Having lost for the first time this season, Edison fell to 3-1.

Edison came out on top in a nail-biter against Oak Glen when the teams last played back in April of 2023, sneaking past 11-10. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
