The playoffs arrived like a knee to the chin strap. All sections in the state are in play now with section finals looming.
De La Salle seeks its 28th consecutive North Coast Section banner, Folsom seeks its eighth this decade and Central Coast Section rivals Serra and Valley Christian may face off again after doing so in league play.

Update: The Spartans rolled Amador Valley 69-14 after leading 35-0 in the first quarter to set up a league rematch with Monte Vista. DLS won the first meeting 49-14. De La Salle's unbeaten streak against NorCal teams north of Fresno is 308 (with two ties). De La Salle also this season has a 42-27 win over No. 2 Folsom. The Spartans are 393-5-2 against NorCal opponents since 1984. They have won 27 consecutive North Coast Section crowns and have been to a record 12 successive CIF State finals (those games started in 2006) and 10 in succession in the elite Open Division.

Update: The two-time defending CIF State Division I-AA champion Bulldogs, the top-ranked team in this section by The Sacramento Bee, rallied to beat Edison 45-42 in SJS D-I play as
CJ Hutton scored the game winner and then sealed it with a last-play in the end zone, batting the ball away in the end zone.
Jacob Reithmeier had six touchdown passes for his program's 45th consecutive win over section competition.The loss this season was 42-27 to De La Salle and Folsom's lone loss last season was to De La Salle. Folsom is 136-11 this decade with four CIF State banners, seven section titles and nine league titles.

League: West Catholic Athletic
Coach: Patrick Walsh
Update: Two time CIF Northern California winners in recent years, Serra beat Half Moon Bay 42-14 after trailing 14-0 early, in a CCS Division I quarterfinal. The Padres posted early big wins over St. Mary's, (56-28), Pittsburg (58-21) and Menlo-Atherton (38-13). Serra's best teams in recent years include the 13-2 team of 2017, the 10-5 group of 2015, the 11-3 team of 2013 and the 11-2 team of 2011.

4. (4) Valley Christian (San Jose), 10-1Section: Central Coast
League: West Catholic Athletic
Coach: Mike Machado
Update: The defending CCS Open Division II champions beat Saint Francis 25-3 in CCS D-II play as Cory Taylor tossed two touchdown passes. The loss was to Serra. A big early win was 23-13 over Wilcox. Valley Christian under coach Machado has had 12-1 teams in 2004 and 2005, an 11-2 team in 2010, a 13-2 team in 2016 and an 11-3 team in 2018.

Update: The Pirates beat Logan 41-0 in NCS D-I action as
Jerry Johnson tossed three touchdown passes and passed for 195 yards to set up a rematch with Liberty, a team Pitt beat 24-21 in overtime. The Pittsburg loss this season was to Serra. Pittsburg is the last NorCal program to defeat De La Salle, doing so in the 1991 North Coast Section finals.

Update: The defending CIF State 1-A champion Lions rolled California 50-18 in NCS D-I action as
Jay Butterfield passed for 253 yards and three touchdowns to set up a rematch with a Pittsburg team that won the first meeting in overtime. Earlier wins were over Cardinal Newman, Clayton Valley Charter, Vacaville and Oakdale.

Update: The Tigers beat Davis 43-21 in an SJS D-I playoff as
Aaron Espero,

Dino Watson led the charge. Inderkum led 21-0 after the first quarter. Inderkum has gone 34-2 the last three seasons. Earlier big wins included Elk Grove and Del Oro.

Update: The defending CIF State 3-A champion Chargers beat Menlo-Atherton 42-35 in overtime in a CCS D-I thriller.
Paul M. Rosa, son of the coach, rushed 35 times for 255 yards and three scores. One loss was 35-31 to Pittsburg and the other was to Valley Christian 23-13.

League: Sierra Foothill
Coach: Eric Cavaliere
Update: The Trojans beat Turlock 24-14 in SJS D-I in not allowing a first down over Turlock's first six possessions.
Justin Lamson led the offense and
Elijah Hansen had four sacks. An earlier loss was 36-33 to Folsom. Oak Ridge has been a section power since the early 1980s.

League: West Catholic Athletic

Update: The Wildcats beat Mitty 28-7 in a CCS D-I game a week after handing Serra its first loss to force a three-way tie for the league championship. The lone league loss was 17-7 to Valley Christian, making for this week's rematch an especially interesting one.

Update: The Cardinals rolled Tennyson 56-7 in a NCS D-IV game as
Jackson Pavitt passed for 201 yards and four touchdowns. The loss was 17-13 to Liberty. The lone loss a year ago was to Liberty. This program in the 1970s had the state record for consecutive wins at 47.

Update: The Cougars defeated Antelope 27-17 in SJS D-III play behind

Isaiah Bass. Coming off a 13-1 section D-IIII championship season, the big early win was 32-7 over Cosumnes Oaks, which later upset ranked Monterey Trail, 36-35. The losses are to state and national powers Vista Murrieta and Chandler (Ariz).

Update: The Warriors of the East Bay are eager for a competitive game and seem to be on their way to another romp to the Oakland Section championship. An early big win was 19-7 over Marin Catholic. McClymonds has won two CIF State titles since 2016 with a 12-0 team in 2010, a 12-1 team in 2015 and going 12-2 a year ago.

Update: The Wildcats beat Kennedy in an NCS D-IV playoff 52-0 as
Matteo Perez rushed for six touchdowns. The loss was 19-7 to McClymonds. Marin Catholic teams have had teams go 12-1, 14-1, 14-2, 13-1, 12-2 and 12-1 this decade.

Daniel Susac at the QB controls, including eliminating Central Catholic in a D-II SJS quarterfinal.

Update: The Wolf Pack beat Granite Bay 31-20 in an SJS D-II game to earn the program's first section semifinal berth and set up a rematch with Delta League rival Elk Grove, a team CO beat earlier this season. An early big win was over Monterey Trail, that program's lone loss of 2018.

Update: The Thunder beat Roseville 45-27 in an SJS D-III quarterfinal by rushing 41 times for 475 yards and six touchdowns, averaging 11.6 yards a carry. BC has had two other teams start 12-0.

19. (25) Placer (Auburn), 9-2Section: Sac-Joaquin
League: Foothill Valley
Coach: Joey Montoya
Update: The Hillmen rallied to beat Yuba City 31-28 in SJS D-III play and now host unbeaten Buhach Colony with hopes of returning to the section finals. Placer was a power in the 1970s and early 80s and has won nine successive league titles under coach Montoya, grandson of famed yesteryear coach Bill Miller.

Update: The Wildcats bet Live Oak 41-7 in CCS Division II play as

Update: The Bobcats beat Live Oak 56-0 in a Northern Section D-III playoff game as
Tyler Harrison rushed for 307 yards and five touchdowns and
Lukas Hartley went for 118 and two scores. Coach Prinz has another powerhouse brewing and has since 2004 produced six 11-1 teams and two 10-2 teams.

Update: The Eagles have peeled off some stellar seasons before, going 12-2 a year ago, 12-1 in 2013, 11-2 in 2012 and 11-1 in 2004, all under coach Grandell. Next is a battle of 11-0 teams. West Valley has won behind defense and its rushing attack.

Update: The Blue Devils beat Cosumnes Oaks 27-14 to secure the program's first league title since 1995, then won their first playoff game since 1994 and finished 10-2 after falling to Inderkum 43-21 in an SJS D-I quarterfinal.

Update: The Rams lost to Monterey Trail 28-21 to end the season. St. Mary's endured one of the toughest schedules of any program on the West Coast with losses to Pittsburg, Serra, Mission Viejo and De La Salle. The program has had teams win 12, 12, 11, 11, 12, 10, 14 and 11 games since 2007.

Update: The defending CIF 3-AA state champions los to Wilcox 42-35 in overtime in CCS Division II play. Other losses were to were to No. 2 Folsom 47-0, to Utah power East 49-20 after being up 20-7 and to No. 3 Serra 38-13 at Levi's Stadium.
