The King Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 67-45 walloping at the hands of Gregory-Portland. While losing is never fun, King can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1098th, while Gregory-Portland is ranked 206th).
Shawn Williams was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds for Gregory-Portland. That makes it three consecutive games in which Williams has scored at least 25% of Gregory-Portland's points. Another player making a difference was Russell Escamilla, who scored ten points along with five assists.
King has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season. As for Gregory-Portland, they pushed their record up to 16-2 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home.
King will be home for the holidays to greet Miller at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Miller will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak. As for Gregory-Portland, they will head out on the road to face off against Flour Bluff at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
