While losing is never fun, Hilton Head Island can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 129th, while James Island is ranked 27th).
When it comes to explaining why Hilton Head Island lost, one person who can't be blamed is Deja Godsun. Despite the final result, she scored six points along with five assists and two steals. Godsun hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games.
James Island got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Andrea Duncan out in front who scored 23 points along with four steals. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Duncan has scored at least a third of James Island's points. Another player making a difference was Madisyn Smith, who scored six points along with five steals.
Hilton Head Island has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season. As for James Island, their victory bumped their record up to 14-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hilton Head Island will take on Bluffton at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Bluffton is coming into the contest hot, having won their last 13 games. As for James Island, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Colleton County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Colleton County has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 15.
