On Friday, the Boaz Pirates's game was all tied up 30-30 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They managed a 55-49 victory over Smyrna. The win made it back-to-back wins for Boaz.
Smyrna's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Caleb Pastrana, who scored 16 points along with three steals. Those 16 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Jalylle Batey-roberts, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds.
Boaz is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-8 record this season. As for Smyrna, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-8.
Boaz's road trip will continue as they head out to face Oakwood Academy at 11:30 a.m. on December 27th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Alabama (Oakwood Academy is ranked 220th, while Boaz is ranked 197th). Smyrna will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on McGavock at 7:30 p.m. on January 5, 2024.
