Softball Game Preview: Conner Cougars vs. Holy Cross Indians

Conner has gone a perfect 3-0 against Holy Cross recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Cougars will be playing at home against the Indians at 5:00 p.m. Conner is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.

Conner is headed into the contest having just suffered their closest loss since April 12th on Wednesday. They fell just short of Notre Dame Academy by a score of 8-6.

Bre Meredith made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayla Ortiz, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Holy Cross). They put the hurt on Dayton with a sharp 24-7 win on Monday. The Indians have beaten the Greendevils the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Greendevils has come to flipping the script.

Holy Cross got a massive performance out of Zakyah Ryan, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance also gave Ryan a new career-high in doubles (two). Jordyn Rieselman was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Holy Cross was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .484. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dayton only posted a batting average of .111.

Conner's defeat dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Holy Cross, their victory bumped their record up to 8-6.

Everything went Conner's way against Holy Cross in their previous matchup back in April of 2021, as Conner made off with a 28-10 win. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Indians turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
