The Hoehne Farmers will head out on the road to face off against the Swallows Charter Academy Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Hoehne focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Saturday.
Last Saturday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Hoehne beat Las Animas 57-53. The win was just what Hoehne needed coming off of a 54-28 loss in their prior game.
Among those leading the charge was Nathan Zamora, who scored 16 points along with six assists and five steals. That's the first time this season that he scored 15 or more points. Bobby Terry was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Meanwhile, Swallows Charter Academy had to endure a 26-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They were the clear victor by a 47-25 margin over Trinidad. Swallows Charter Academy's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Swallows Charter Academy's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Andrew Breedlove, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds, and Charles Perry, who scored 14 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Those five assists set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Garrett Vinson, who scored five points along with seven rebounds.
The win got Hoehne back to even at 3-3. As for Swallows Charter Academy, their victory ended a 13-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-6.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Hoehne have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 31 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Swallows Charter Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 34 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Hoehne against Swallows Charter Academy in their previous matchup back in January as the team secured a 57-18 victory. With Hoehne ahead 35-12 at the half, the game was all but over already.
