The Middle Creek Mustangs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Southern Alamance Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 835 yards in their previous games.
Middle Creek is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat West Brunswick 52-20. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 31st, while the Trojans are ranked 142nd) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lex Sevilla had a dynamite game, throwing for 186 yards and one TD while completing 71.4% of his passes, and also rushing for 87 yards on only eight carries. Those 87 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Jayden Spencer also helped with two touchdowns in total.
Middle Creek's run defense was locked in: West Brunswick could only muster 3.2 yards per carry. While eight picked up at least one total tackle, Ezra Jobe stood above the rest. He rushed for 41 yards and three scores. Middle Creek's run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 4.99 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 5.63 on average over their last five games.
Middle Creek's defense didn't let Josiah Borton, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for six sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as six different players picked up one apiece.
Meanwhile, Southern Alamance had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 38.3 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They strolled past the Rampants with points to spare, taking the game 55-36. The Patriots pushed the score to 45-21 by the end of the third, a deficit the Rampants cut but never quite recovered from.
Southern Alamance found their leader in sophomore Sincere Thompson, who rushed for 228 yards and three TDs while picking up 9.1 yards per carry. The Patriots are undefeated when Thompson posts two or more rushing touchdowns, but 2-3 otherwise. Tustin Johnson was another major influence, as he rushed for 17 yards and ran in a TD.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Southern Alamance, adding 19 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Jayden Brown, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Middle Creek's record now sits at 8-2. As for Southern Alamance, their record is now 8-3.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Middle Creek has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 184.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Southern Alamance struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 290.7 rushing yards.
