Fairfield has gone 8-1 against York County Tech recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Knights will look to defend their home field against the Spartans at 4:15 p.m. Fairfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Fairfield got the win against Greenwood by a conclusive 11-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Knights.
Maddy Payne made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-3.
In other batting news, Addison Welch was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Sophia Klinedinst, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3.
Fairfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .645. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for York County Tech's offense. They lost 16-0 to Littlestown on Wednesday. The Spartans have struggled against the Thunderbolts recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.
York County Tech's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Fairfield, their win bumped their record up to 3-5.
Fairfield's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's game. The Knights have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for York County Tech, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Fairfield continue to outrun the ball?
Fairfield took their victory against York County Tech in their previous matchup back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 21-2 score. Do the Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
