The Greater Nanticoke Area Trojans will venture away from home to challenge the Pittston Patriots at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. Greater Nanticoke Area has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with four straight defeats, while Pittston will come in with 13 straight wins.
Wednesday just wasn't the day for Greater Nanticoke Area's offense. They lost 14-0 to Hazleton Area on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Pittston got the win against Crestwood on Wednesday by a conclusive 11-1. Considering the Patriots have won ten games by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Silvio Giardina made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Giardina was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other pitching news, TJ Johnson tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Elijah Barr, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in March. Beau Widdick was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Pittston's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-0. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Greater Nanticoke Area, their loss dropped their record down to 2-11.
Greater Nanticoke Area might still be hurting after the 17-0 defeat they got from Pittston in their previous meeting last Tuesday. Can the Trojans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
