The St. Martin's Episcopal Saints will face off against the Ursuline Academy Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. St. Martin's Episcopal knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past three matchups -- so hopefully Ursuline Academy likes a good challenge.
Last Thursday, St. Martin's Episcopal made easy work of West St. John and carried off an 18-1 win. The victory continues a trend for the Saints in their matchups with the Rams: they've now won seven in a row.
Gianna Mandella was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Molly Dunn was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Sophie Miller was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing five bases while going 1-for-2.
St. Martin's Episcopal always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .741. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .733 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Ursuline Academy's offense. They came up short against Central Lafourche on Friday, falling 15-0. The Lions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Ursuline Academy's loss dropped their record down to 3-7. As for St. Martin's Episcopal, their win bumped their record up to 3-5.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. St. Martin's Episcopal has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .573. However, it's not like Ursuline Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .434. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
