Baseball Recap: Niwot Wins Going Away Against Thompson Valley

Niwot lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Thompson Valley, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's matchup. The Cougars blew past the Eagles 11-5 on Friday. For the Cougars, this counts as revenge for the 4-2 victory the Eagles walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Jagger Kilpatrick made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up five earned runs off six hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run and three runs. He has become a key player for Niwot: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-12 otherwise.

In other batting news, Drew Stapp and Charlie Shaw did most of the damage at the plate: Stapp went 3-for-4 with five RBI, one triple, and one double, while Shaw got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most hits Stapp has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Haden Shaw, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Niwot's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-12. As for Thompson Valley, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-11.

Coming up, Niwot will head out to square off against Silver Creek at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Raptors have averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season. As for Thompson Valley, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Greeley Central at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Eagles are facing the Wildcats at the right time seeing as the Wildcats are stuck on a 12-game losing streak.
