Softball Recap: East Lake Has No Trouble Against Tarpon Springs

East Lake won the last time they faced Tarpon Springs and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Eagles put the hurt on the Spongers with a sharp 14-4 win. Considering the Eagles have won 11 contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Anna Folger made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits (and not a single walk). Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Meagan Bostak and Ali Sheffield did most of the damage at the plate: Bostak scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Sheffield scored three runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Danni Scali was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

East Lake pushed their record up to 13-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Tarpon Springs, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. East Lake will square off against Dunedin at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Eagles 2.3, the Falcons 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Tarpon Springs, they will face off against Lakewood at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Spongers are facing the Spartans at the right time seeing as the Spartans are stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
