Baseball Recap: Arlington Snags 11th Win in Last 13 Games

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Arlington and South Grand Prairie meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Saturday. The Colts skirted past the Warriors 7-6. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 10-5 win back in March.

Danny Bustamante made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Arlington is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 10-12 otherwise. Bustamante was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Gannon Howard and Matthew Nguyen did most of the damage at the plate: Howard went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double, while Nguyen went 1-for-4 with one home run and two runs. Those two runs gave Nguyen a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Abraham Alvarado, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one double.

Arlington has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 17-12 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for South Grand Prairie, their loss dropped their record down to 19-8-2.

Coming up, Arlington will welcome Granbury at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Pirates' pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so the Colts' hitters will have their work cut out for them. South Grand Prairie does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
