New Waverly is 9-1 against the Wildcats since February of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The New Waverly Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Onalaska Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Last Friday, New Waverly was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 54-50 to the Pirates. New Waverly has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, Onalaska pushed their score all the way to 56 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 63-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of Crockett. While losing is never fun, Onalaska can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 826th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 331st).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Lucas Jackson, who scored 13 points along with two steals. Johnny Byrd was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
New Waverly has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-19 record this season. As for Onalaska, their loss dropped their record down to 14-18.
New Waverly took a serious blow against the Wildcats in their previous matchup back in January, falling 101-60. Will New Waverly have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other basketball content.
