It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Butler Bulldogs ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They walked away with a 68-60 win over Charlotte Catholic. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Tyler Showalter was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 27 points and ten rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Butler's points. The team also got some help courtesy of DeQuadre Currence, who scored eight points along with six assists and five rebounds.
Several Cougars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Chris Eagan, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Liam Gates, who scored 13 points along with six assists.
Butler is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 8-6 record this season. As for Charlotte Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 11-4.
Butler will face off against Huss at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Huss is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak. As for Charlotte Catholic, they will head out on the road to face off against East Mecklenburg at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully East Mecklenburg focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Wednesday.
